Job Description

West Kent Housing Association
Board Member Investment and Finance/Audit and Risk
Remuneration: £7,461 PA plus reasonable expenses
Location: Sevenoaks Kent
Time commitment: Two days per month
Closing date: Friday 17th May 2024 (23:55)

West Kent is a high performing and growing community-based housing association,
providing much needed affordable homes and services to people living in towns and villages
throughout Kent. Our vision is to deliver places to live and space to grow for our current and
future residents. Against this backdrop we are beginning to re-shape our strategic plan to
take us to 2030.

The last few years has brought much change for us all and this in turn is changing what we
want from a home and what we value from our communities. We have some important
strategic decisions ahead and we want our customers to be proud of their home and the
communities they live in. Working collaboratively with our residents in the design and
improvement of our services will be vital to our continuing success. We also want to increase
the number and range of homes available for our current and future residents, from our
current base of 8,500 managed homes.

The current economic climate is arguably one of the most challenging it has been, at a time
when expectations and regulatory requirements regarding the standard of homes, building
safety, meeting net zero are increasing. West Kent has been in business for 35 years as an
independent housing provider and we are proud of the organisation we have become. From
our G1/V2 regulatory ratings to our strong reputation amongst residents, partners and other
stakeholders.

There is now an opportunity for an exceptional professional with a relevant financial
background to join our Board and help ensure that we successfully deliver our long-term
financial plan, our development and regeneration strategies.
You will be a crucial member of our Board and Committees, providing strategic oversight and
evaluation of our long-term financial plans and investment opportunities. To complement the
continuing Board Members, we are ideally looking for at least one of the following:
senior finance or treasury management experience
an understanding of strategic financial planning and the raising of both bank and
capital market funding an understanding of appropriate methods for mitigating financial risks.
Previous non-executive experience is desirable but not essential.

We are committed to retaining a diverse board, reflective of the communities we serve, and
comprising people who bring a broad mix of different skills and perspectives. We are keen to
attract applicants from the broadest possible range of backgrounds and look forward to
welcoming new colleagues who will enjoy the work we do and bring both support and
constructive challenge to our discussions and decision making.

The role will require an average of two days per month. Most board meetings will take place
at our head office in Sevenoaks.

If you share our vision and ambitions and are inspired to serve our residents, customers, and
our local communities, then we would welcome hearing from you.
